Villa Rendano

Where Via Triglio, 15, Cosenza

Rendano Villa, surrounded by a beautiful park, was the sumptuous residence of the Rendano  family, built by the Master Alfonso Rendano in the nineteenth century. Situated on the Triglio Hill, near the steam mill belonging to the family, it had to be already finished in 1891 (according to the date on purpose at the entrance gate). The building recalls the  post-unification Tuscan Renaissance style: two storey, with a straight face, animated only by the projection of the central sector. The area of the ground floor is covered with an ashlar masonry "diamond point", while the "flat" are the pillars openings window and niches. The first and the second floor show orthogonal articulation, divided by pillars and balconies that welcome bands with "gabled" pediments. The top of the central gable is decorated with panels and a large vase supported by caryatids. The decorative themes are varied: masks, garlands, figures of  Pompeian inspiration (attributable to Giustino Rocciolo), also adorn the lobby and the stairwell. The first floor housed the state rooms, the library and the study; on the second floor bedrooms. Some minor changes were made to the internal structure by subsequent owners (the Marquis Annibale Berlingeri and Count Giannone). The main floor is characterized by a series of communicating rooms arranged "in court" around the stairwell, with ceiling paintings and whites and blacks mosaic floors. it seems that the main hall was the place where he used to Alfonso Rendano concert with friends, so called "Music Room". In recent times, Villa Rendano was declared a building of considerable historical and artistic interest  Purchased in 2012 by the Foundation "Attilio and Elena Giuliani" Onlus, the Villa was restored and designed to seat of cultural events, meetings and conferences.
