The square, formerly the passage of ancient Via Emilia (187 BC), has approximately a rectangular shape. Its architectural feature is the contrast between the imposing importance of Palazzo Comunale (or Albornoz Palace) and Loggetta Veneziana and the much smaller dimensions of the opposing structures in Neoclassical and Eclectic style. At the center of the square is monumental Fontana Masini. In June there is traditional San Giovanni Fair.
