Biblioteca Malatestiana
Malatestian Library of Cesena is a monastic library of particular historical importance. Founded in the mid-fifteenth century, it holds two absolute primates: it was the first civic library in Italy and Europe, and it is the only example of a humanistic monastic library that has come to us perfectly preserved in the building, furnishings and bookbinding. UNESCO acknowledged cultural importance of Malatestiana by including it, first in Italy, in "Memory of the World". In 2008 Poste Italiane issued a postage stamp dedicated to Library. Presently there are nearly 250.000 volumes, of which 287 incunabula, about 4.000 five hundred, 1.753 manuscripts ranging between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries and over 17.000 letters and autographs. There are over one hundred volumes in the modern section of Library. Società di Studi Romagnoli, an institution founded in 1949, is located there.
