Teatro Politeama

Where Via Giovanni Jannoni, 61, Catanzaro

The Politeama Theatre of Catanzaro is the youngest among the great Italian theaters. Born as a movie theater, the Politeama hosted in 1930 his first opera season opened with the performance "Adriana Lecouvreur", by Francesco Cilea. The building, designed by architect Paul Portoghesi, has a compact structure, divided into three functional sections of the foyer, horseshoe room and the fly tower. The style recalls the biological and botanist world, with elements of Classical and Avant-garde experimentation fragments. Classical instruments such as the lyre or the violin decorate the balconies and fabrics. The parterre contains 380 seats and is developed with a wave motion on a almost concave surface, along which bordering five tiers of boxes decorated with seven-pointed star (musical symbol) which, in turn, are home 550 spectators. The large stage has all the technological equipment that allow the performance of various kinds of entertainment, from the great symphony opera to dance and operetta, from prose to musicals.
