Burg Hauenstein (Ruderi di Castelvecchio di Siusi)
The ruins of ancient castle are located at the base of Punta Santner, above a large dolomitic block, not far from Castel Salego. The building was erected in the twelfth century by the lords of Hauenstein and suffered successive enlargements in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Tyrolean fourteenth-century poet Oswald von Wolkenstein, who established his residence there for some years and composed some of his Lieder, owned it for a third. Baron Christoph von Wolkenstein then acquired the Castle. On the occasion of the sixth centenary of his death in 1978, the remains were restored and some frescoes recovered inside the chapel. You can reach the ruins and visit them freely, taking the path n. 8 from Siusi, in half an hour.
