Museo Civico d'Arte Siamese Stefano Cardu
It is located in the historic center of the city, within the Citadel of Museums, which houses a number of other museums. On display there are works of art of different origins and cultures of Asia. In addition to works of art based on religious themes, are objects of domestic use preciously worked, rare coins and very little known weapons. The collection is characterized by the wide variety of items and materials: silver, ivory, bronze, porcelain, wood carvings, paper material, coins. The bulk of the objects is Siamese, an element that gives peculiarity and uniqueness to this collection. The existence of the collection is due to Stephen Cardu, who donated to the city a part of its prestigious collection of objects of art and oriental weapons, recovered during his long stay in Asia, especially in Siam, the current Thailand. Among the exhibits, outstanding Chinese porcelain of the period "Ming" and the first emperors "Qing" (from the fourteenth to the seventeenth century) that express an exquisite manifestation of art and technology at the highest level. In addition, the section of weapons, while not impressive, however, is not common: only one in Italy and one of the few in the world, presents an overview of the most meaningful Siamese weapons, that form the largest and interesting group. Besides having the largest collection of Siamese art in Europe, is also the first Town Museum in Sardinia and the only example of the Oriental Museum in the region.
