Monastero di San Benedetto e Sacro Speco

Where Strada Provinciale 45a, Subiaco (Roma)

St. Benedict's Monastery was born in the place of Sacro Speco, the cave where Saint had lived in penance in the sixth century. Above the cave, at the end of the twelfth century, it was built Lower Church, with original nucleus of Monastery, and then Superior one. Entering the monastery, on the right side of imposing arch, there is engraved on the wall of St. Benedict Seal oval shape, which traditionally are attributed exorcism and protective powers. The same seal, more finely crafted, we find engraved on the wall of the staircase that descends to Lower Church and Holy Cave.
