Arco di Druso e Germanico

Where Via Arco di Druso, 17, Spoleto (Perugia)

Roman Arch of the early first century, located near the Roman Temple and the St. Ansano's Church. Was the monumental gateway to the court of the city, from the Via Flaminia. It was erected in 23 A.D. by local Senate in honor of the Druso minor and Germano. Thanks to the discoveries of the archaeologist Giuseppe Sordini, important excavations were carried out in the years 1955-1957 and the Arch received its present layout, with the demolition of the superstructures subsequent to Roman times and the highlighting of one of the pylons. Built in square work with blocks of local limestone, it is preserved until the entablature surmounting the Arch, with the pylon west incorporated in newer homes. It is decorated to the outside edges of the piers with pilasters with Corinthian capitals.
