Centro Storico di San Gimignano (Sito UNESCO)
Inserted in the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990, the Historic Center of San Gimignano preserves a series of masterpieces of Italian art of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries in their original architectural context. In particular, Colleggiata holds the fresco depicting the Last Judgment by Taddeo di Bartolo (1393), the Martyrdom of San Sebastiano by Benozzo Gozzoli (1465) and magnificent cycle of frescoes by Domenico Ghirlandaio (1475-1482). San Gimignano is also an exceptional testimony of Medieval civilization, as it concentrates in a relatively small area all typical structures of the context: squares, streets, tower-houses, palaces, wells and sources. Defined as "Manhattan of the Middle Ages", San Gimignano is dominated by the towers of public buildings (Palazzo del Podestà and Palazzo della Signoria), as well as those of private residences.
