Teatro Brancaccio

Where Via Merulana, 244-245, Roma

The Theater, built by architect Luca Carimini and created by Carlo Sacconi after the completion of Brancaccio Palace, was inaugurated in 1916 under the name of "Morgana Theatre". Over the years, there they performed great actors very dear to the city as Ettore Petrolini, Totò, Aldo Fabrizi, Anna Magnani, as well as musicians of all kinds, from the Beatles to Fabrizio De André, from Jimi Hendrix to Louis Armstrong. After years of decline, the Theater, owned by the City of Rome, it was restored and reopened in 1978. From 2001 to 2007 Gigi Proietti has held its artistic direction, then passed to Maurizio Costanzo. After the restructuring, the Brancaccio hosts several productions, from opera to ballet, to the playhouse.
