The Way, already existing in the fourteenth century, assumed in 1525, thanks to the work contracted out by Pope Clement VII, a new face and a new name: Via Clementina, in honor of its creator. On involvement of Pius V, in 1571, it was installed a new fountain to citizens, and its implementation was a statue of Silenus, classical divinity linked to springs and fountains, which soon became popular among the residents of the district for his ugliness: thus it was born "er baboon", which eventually became the name of the street. Parallel to Via del Babuino is Via Margutta, founded as a service road at the back of the buildings of Via del Babuino. The Street was inhabited by different personalities.
