Via dei Fori Imperiali

Where Via dei Fori Imperiali, 100, Roma

Via dei Fori Imperiali, draws its name from the remains of the ancient Roman Forum, which crosses. Near the remains of the Roman period, the area in the Middle Ages saw the rise homes, churches and monasteries, until the desired radical transformation in the sixteenth century by Cardinal Michele Bonelli, who designed the "Alexandrian" distrect. The neighborhood was in turn demolished by Mussolini for the opening of a major road that was to symbolically link the Colosseum to Venice Square: the artery was called "Imperial Road" and was inaugurated in 1932. A vast campaign of archaeological excavations was launched only in 1998, under the hypothesis of eliminating the way and bring to light the remains of the Roman Forum. Since 2013, the area is at the center of an enhancement project, which sees the pedestrianization as the first step towards the reunification the "greatest archaeological park in the world".
