Piazza Venezia

Venice Square is located at the foot of the Capitol, at the cross of the most important streets of the capital. The current appearance of the Square comes from the demolition and reconstruction made in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century following the construction of the Vittoriano, redesigned by the same Giuseppe Sacconi. On the west side overlooking Venice Palace, from whose balcony Benito Mussolini delivered his speeches (for this reason, the Square is also known as the "Forum of Italy"); on the north side, Bonaparte Palace, also part of the original arrangement of the Square, where lived and died Letizia Ramolino, Napoleon's mother. During the Christmas season in this Square is placed a large decorated fir, while at the intersection with Via del Corso, the raised platform for the city police has long been an element of inspiration for many films and commercials (as "Roman Holiday" by William Wyler and "To Rome with Love" by Woody Allen).
