On the occasion of the anniversary of the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Assessorato alle Politiche Culturali e della Comunicazione, Sovraintendenza ai Beni Culturali di Roma Capitale, promoted the establishment of a new museum space dedicated to the Roman Republic of 1849.
The museum dedicated to this important historical event is placed inside the Porta San Pancrazio, which, besides being evocative of itself made to its history and location, it becomes a center connected to the other sites dedicated to the history of the Risorgimento period of Rome (Museo Napoleonico; Museo di Roma in Palazzo Braschi; Museo Centrale del Risorgimento, Museo di Roma in Trastevere). The collection consists of paintings, engravings, busts and garibaldian memorabilia. Plastics and a rich multimedia apparatus, guide the visitor to discover the places and dates of the main protagonists of the facts at the time of great political ferment. Room after room is possible to retrace the evolution of events leading from the 1848 European uprisings through the liberal phase of Pius IX, the Pontiff to flee to Gaeta and the proclamation of the Roman Republic until his tragic epilogue in July 1849 at the end of the violent clashes that saw the Roman troops oppose the overwhelming forces of the French army. The visit concludes by showing the continuity of the life of Garibaldi that tradition, gloriously participant of Defense of the Republic, was also a lot of history of the 20th century.

Saturday, Sunday & holidays (including 25 April) 10.00-18.00 (not subject to entrance)
On Saturdays and Sundays the ticket office closes 30 minutes earlier.
