The Franciscan Museum is a museum not possessing artistic, historic or archaeological value, although it includes many objects of high artistic quality and of great historical value. Fits in the category of specialized museums. Through the exhibits in its halls, the Museum illustrates the history of the Franciscan order.
 
A special feature of the Museum is that it documents Franciscan art and culture through the centuries, i.e. from the 13th century until the 20th century.
The Museum, listed by Ministerial Decree of September 15, 1965 between non-State museums like Museo diocesan or religious, n. 246», under the category of specialized museums.
Through the exhibits in its halls, some of high artistic quality, the Museum shows the entire story arc and spirituality of the Franciscan order. In this sense, is unique in its kind. Do not exist, not even in other orders, museums that similarly visually documenting its history.
In the new and larger premises the Museum was ordered for the purpose of providing a broad historical illustration of Franciscanism, starting from the iconography of St. Francis, Santi and other characters more important, somehow related to the order, whose apostolate is then provided a rich and varied documentation.
