Basilica del Sacro Cuore di Gesù

Where Via Marsala, 38-40, Roma

The Church was commissioned by Pope Pius IX, who in 1870 laid the foundation stone of the new building. The facade is in Renaissance style; on the bell tower stands the statue of Christ the Redeemer, located in 1931. The interior has three naves divided by granite columns, with transept and dome. The Church and adjacent buildings have been owned by the Salesians, who have made it one of their most important centers in Rome. In the building next to the Church, from 1881 to 1884, he lived the founder of the Order, St. John Bosco, as remembered by a memorial plaque. On the back of the Basilica, it is preserved an environment that recalls his transition and remain in Rome.
