Born in Milan in 1993 by the will of Teresa Melorio and Enza Baccei, to undertake a fascinating project: to rediscover the human value of those who are suffering from a mental disorder also very serious, integrate them into the social and cultural life, going beyond the barriers that still segregate them in a world of its own, completely detached from a society too busy to maintain unchanged the narrow canons of rationality and the "norm". The MAPP is a contemporary art museum located in the former Psychiatric Hospital Paolo Pini di Milano, created in 1993 by Teresa Melorio and Enza Baccei and realized in collaboration with the Department of Mental Health Niguarda Ca 'Granda, art direction Marco Meneguzzo and the accession of some well-known art galleries in Milan. The goal of the project was to transform the psychiatric hospital in a meeting place where the "making art" was an opportunity for exchange of ideas and languages between professional artists and people suffering from mental distress and where the sharing of cultural and artistic experiences between so-called "healthy" and "sick" contribute concretely to the care and transformation of a place that has for years been the emblem of the inability. The works carried out directly on the walls of the former mental hospital are an expression of the intrinsic value that encompasses every person even when he is seriously ill in body or mind; the MAPP shows that a real transformation of the mode of cure is also achieved through a specific aesthetic quality of the space that expresses the richness of symbolic values of the human being in all its thickness.
