Museo diocesano di Milano

Where Corso di Porta Ticinese, 95, Milano

The Diocesan Museum was opened in 2001 by Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini at the site of the cloisters of St. Eustorgio, one of the oldest monuments of Milan, adapted for the purpose by the study Belgiojoso. The first cloister, adjacent to the Basilica, is surrounded on three sides by a portico with columns. The Museum is housed in the second cloister and its arrangement, by the architect Antonio Piva, is inspired by the themes of acceptance, flexible exhibition, conservation and communication. The permanent collection consists of more than seven hundred works from the fourth to the twenty-first century (collections Monti, Visconti, Riccardi, Pozzobonelli and the complete collection Erba Odescalchi). In addition to paintings from the churches, the Museum exhibits a significant group of works of liturgical furniture, the "Funds Gold" and carvings. The Museum offers exhibitions, educational activities and events.
