Piazza XXIV Maggio, Milano
Porta Ticinese, also known as Porta Marengo and Porta Cicca (from the Spanish chica, "small"), is one of the six main gates of Milan located inside the ramparts, as identification of the ancient historic districts (Porta Ticinese District). Located in the south of the city, at the turn of the ditch of the Naviglio Grande, externally to the circuit of the Spanish walls, this gate forced people entering the city from the direction of Pavia to pay the duty. The current Gate, designed by Luigi Cagnola in neoclassical style and built between 1802 and 1814, is located on the same road axis on which stood Roman and Medieval gates.
