Santuario Madonna del Carmelo
The Shrine of Our Lady of Carmel, better known as the Carmine's Church, replacing the church itself destroyed in the earthquake of 1908. Recall the eighteenth-century style, designed by Cesare Bazzani. On the facade, is placed the shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The interior, with a Greek cross plant, is decorated with polychrome marble and pink marble columns topped by carved capitals. The windows are a mosaic depicting Marian scenes and the history of the Order. The central room, octagonal, is covered by the dome frescoed by Adolfo Romano, with circular windows and a square lantern. The Church has seven chapels with their altars. On the main altar is the eighteenth-century statue of the Madonna of Carmel and Child with St. Simon Stock. The adjacent bell tower is made on the artistic base in eighteenth-century style. The terrace offers a wonderful view of the Messina Straits.
