In memory of the coming to Messina of Pope John Paul II, in August 1988, the bronze monument, work by the sculptor Sgaravattidi Padova, represents the Pontiff in prayer for Sant'Eustochia Calafato. In the stele are portrayed salient episodes of the life of Messina Saint.
