Acquario di Genova
The Aquarium was built in 1992 and identified as a leading idea in the in the project to develop an area of the town full of history and tradition, located in the heart of the historic center of Genoa: the Old Port. With its 10.000 square meters and its 63 tanks is the largest indoor aquarium in Europe and one of the most popular cultural venues in Italy. Aquarius is managed since 1993 by companies owned by the family Costa and, since 2002, from Costa Edutainment SpA, a private company engaged in developing educational entertainment. Modern aquariums are geared to represent parts of ecosystems to draw attention of the visitor on the environment and highlight the need for overall conservation of nature. The Aquarium of Genoa is, therefore, a messenger of animal stories, plains, oceans, ecosystems and countries with the intention of leaving a trace of respect for the aquatic environment, to inform of their problems and to inspire the preservation.
