Belvedere, historically named after Guglielmo Marconi and Francesco Crispi, is a scenic square in historic center built in 1927, overlooking a wide view at the foot of the mountain on which the city stands. At its center is the Fountain of the Rape of Proserpine, marble structure of great beauty on which stands a bronze statue representing the rat. They huddle around green hedges and pine trees. Beyond the Fountain, remarkable handrails with columns and marble artistic vases. Belvedere includes some examples of ancient architecture, such as Hotel Belvedere, a fine classical building.
