Chiesa di San Francesco di Paola

Where Via Gian Vincenzo Gravina, 56, Cosenza

St. Francis of Paola's Church was built in the early sixteenth century. It lies on the initial stretch of Via del Plebiscito, next to what was the first monastery of the Minimes. To the left of the facade, stands a seventeenth-century bell tower, a square tower with spire. The gateway presents bronze panels depicting scenes from the life of the Calabrian Saint. The interior has a nave decorated in the first half of the '700 with Baroque stucco. Next to the entrance, there is the sarcophagus of Ottavio Cesare Gaeta, on top of which the statue of the noble dressed as a warrior. On the main altar, in marble, it is placed a triptych from the early '500, which depicts the Madonna of Loreto and Child with St. Catherine and St. Sebastian, painted by Cristofaro Faffeo. The wooden choir, dates back to 1679, with two rows of place, is carved with floral decorations by roglianesi artisans. Outside is the cloister, a quadrilateral with six bays on each side, with arches at the center of the columns.
