Piazza Alberica

Where Piazza Alberica, Carrara (Massa-Carrara)

It owes its name to Alberico I Cybo-Malaspina, who had it built in the seventeenth century near the city walls. The Square is surrounded by elegant buildings of ancient noble families of Carrara, and cobbled square of marble to form ten large decorative panels. At his centre, a fountain with tub and marble lion, topped by a large statue, work of 1827 by Pietro Fontana, depicting the Duchess Maria Beatrice d'Este on a pedestal decorated with bas-reliefs.
