The Sanctuary of Rivotorto is at the foot of Subasio Mount. Inside was rebuilt what is called the "Hovel", the place where Francis of Assisi and his first companions settled to pray, meditate and work in the early days of the Franciscan Fraternity. The Sanctuary protects the remains of two small renovated stone buildings, without any ornament, in which Francis and his companions took refuge. Along with other Franciscan sites of Assisi, it is "World Heritage" by UNESCO since 2000.
