Mercato del Balon
Balon is the flea market in Turin included in Borgo Dora. The etymology of "Borgo del Pallone" is very old: the hypothesis of purely popular matrix, linked to recreational activities, is reflected at the beginning of the twentieth century, when the workers of the nearby tanneries found themselves at one bet using the typical Piedmont said "Andoma a gieughe al balon" (We're going to bet on the game of elastic ball). The district suffered a first transformation in the late eighteenth century, when it welcomed the transfer of the "Market for scrap iron". The now famous flea market takes place every Saturday along the main roads and, since the early 80's, was also established the "Gran Balon", which is held the second Sunday of each month, with participation of 250 antiques exhibitors. Remember the "Balon Feast" of 5 August, in honor of Our Lady of the Snows. In the movie "The Sunday Woman" (1975) by Luigi Comencini, based on the novel by Fruttero & Lucentini, many decisive scenes were shot right in the Balon.
