Residenze Sabaude in Piemonte (Sito UNESCO)
The system of Savoy residences dates back to 1562, when Duke Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy decided to transfer the capital of Duchy to Turin and begin the reconstruction of ancient castles to transform them into new royal residences, equipped with parks and outbuildings. The project, developed throughout Piedmont area between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, also had a symbolic value, aimed at celebrating the absolute power of Savoy. In 1997 many of these assets were declared UNESCO World Heritage and today stand out for their beauty and uniqueness, combining Manneristic style and Piedmontese Baroque: jewels designed or remodeled by architects such as Amedeo and Carlo di Castellamonte, Filippo Juvarra, Guarino Guarini and Pelagio Palagi. In 2017 "Consorzio delle Residenze Reali Sabaude" was established. At Polo Reale in Turin, which includes, among others, Palazzo Reale, Palazzo Chiablese, Palazzo Carignano and Palazzo Madama, there are the residences in the surroundings and in the province, such as Royal Palace of Venaria Reale, Valentino Complex, Hunting Lodge of Stupinigi and Ducal Castle of Agliè.
