Archaeological site of Kamarina, the most important of Sicily, is a legacy of land and underwater archeology. Kamarina, whose name according to Strabo means "Inhabited after much effort" and was an important colony of Syracuse, built at the mouth of the river Ippari in Province of Ragusa. Situated on the hill of cammarina, the acropolis shows the remains of the Temple of Athena; the southwestern end of the hill, between the temple of Athena Polias and the port, extending the agora, whose excavations have not yet been finalized. The best-preserved remains of the walls are, however, located below the Hill of Heracles.
