Open for the first time in 1977 has been completely reorganized to its current location on May 5, 2003. The Museum is the only one in Italy entirely dedicated to the art and textile technology. It was designed from the outset as a place integrated with the local production. The management has been entrusted to a Foundation that collects the representatives of social and productive citizen. The Museum is in charge of conservation, care, consultation and exhibition of textile collections and simultaneously stimulates the exploitation and research in the field of innovation, training and creativity realizing integrated services at the disposal of fully equipped operators in the textile field nationally and internationally. The exhibition is divided into five thematic sections: the familiarization area, dedicated to textile production cycle, in which are exposed tools and textile raw materials; a room devoted to the historical collections (including more than 6.000 textile finds, from the Coptic twentieth century); section Prato textile city, with machinery and samples pratesi from the mid-nineteenth century to the present; section of contemporary fabrics and the hall for temporary exhibitions.
