Palmarola
Palmarola is an island of Ponziano Archipelago, named after Nana Palm, the only palm tree native to Europe, which grows wild on its surface. In Palmarola he was exiled and he died Pope Silverio, patron saint of the Municipality of Ponza, celebrated on June 20th. On the top of Scoglio di San Silverio there is a small chapel, which tradition says was built on the remains of forced residence of the Saint. The island, Nature Reserve, is considered one of the most beautiful in the world: inhabited only during the summer, it becomes a retreat for the people who take refuge in the cave-dwellings, typical dwellings carved into the rock of Palmarola.
