Zannone

Where zannone, Ponza (Latina)

Zannone island is the northernmost of Ponziane Islands. Located north-east of Ponza, in Tyrrhenian Sea, it is fully included in Circeo National Park, which has guaranteed its protection since the first half of the twentieth century. Seat of a Cistercian monastery, of which important ruins remain, in the past it was inhabited only during the summer by the guardians of the lighthouse, located on the northern end (Cape Negro). It is currently inhabited only by agents of State Forestry Corps, who wait in pairs for a week's shift at the station on Monte Pellegrino.
