Chiesa di San Sisto
Renaissance Basilica boasts a precious wooden chapel of 1514 and houses the copy of the masterpiece by Raffaello Sanzio, "Madonna Sistina". Saint Sisto's Basilica, for centuries the main Benedictine monastery of the city, converted into a parish, includes the church and only a small part of the building once. The facade, completed in 1591, restructured in 1755 and recently restored (1969), is made up of Ionic halftones, glaciers surmounted by masks, obelisks and niches where the statues of the saints are housed. The plant has a Latin cross pattern. There are side chapels and a large crypt. The fresco decoration, with symbols of Evangelists and scenes from Old Testament, is Bernardino Zacchetti's work (1517).
