Museo d’Arte e Archeologia “Ignazio Mormino”

Where Viale della Libertà, 52, Palermo

The museum was founded in 1980 to exhibit the art collection of the Bank of Sicily. The first part of the heritage dates back to the late fifties, when the Ministry of Education agreed to entrust to the Bank of Sicily 320 pieces of different nature and origin, so that the restoration - and subsequent exposure to the public - was worth to safeguard and enhance them conveniently. The Museum provides evidence about the history of the civilization of the Island from Prehistory to the twentieth century, collections of archeology, ceramics, coins, prints, stamps and paintings. The neoclassical building which houses it is Villa Zito, built in the middle of the eighteenth century.
