Where Corso Calatafimi, 100, Palermo

The Cuba, built by William II in 1180, is one of the last building of the Norman architecture. The building is on one level, divided into three parts and has no private apartments. Over the time it has undergone serious changes and collapses consecutively to its adaptation as a hospital first, and then as a barracks. The outer walls are decorated with blind arcades of pointed arches. At the bottom, there are some windows separated by little pilasters of brick . The thick walls and few windows are thought to climatic requirements, offering greater resistance to heat of the sun.
