The Urban Ecomuseum "Mare Memoria Viva" is the result of intense research, narrative and mapping "from below" (interviews, testimonies, collection of photos, videos, recipes, etc.) of the community of the Palermo's seafront. It's a cultural and relational space that actively involves residents and visitors with the aim to enhance the local heritage. The path makes use of multimedia installations, video, audio, photography and sound, accompanied by texts that tell about the close relationship between the Palermo's people and the sea. The Ecomuseum, as open and aggregating space, promotes social responsibility and the care of the land through cultural, tourism, educational and experiences of alternative economy and active citizenship. The Ecomuseum is based at the Marina Regia Arsenal, historic monumental building that houses the relics of the maritime life of the city, and is developed in large spaces, suitable to accommodate conferences and exhibitions.
