Palazzo Valguarnera-Gangi

Where Piazza Croce dei Vespri, 3, Palermo

Located in a neighborhood full of stately mansions, it owes its present appearance to the work undertaken in the eighteenth century by the Valguarnera family. The vastness of the architecture, its quality and richness of the decorations, as well as for the fact of having arrived at the threshold of XXI century intact, Valguarnera Palce not only is unique in the Sicilian reality, but also a time of very high Italian Rococo. Especially worth mentioning the two eighteenth century work by architect Andrea Gigante: the monumental staircase, decorated with marble statues by Marabitti, and the Perforated Bibienesca Gallery, which places the city of Palermo in an international cultural context. By the magnificence of the Palace was inspired Luchino Visconti for the setting of the famous ball scene in the film "The Gattopardo" (1963), based on the novel by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa.
