Palazzo Ducezio

Where CORSO V. EMANUELE, Noto (Siracusa)

Town Hall, takes its name in honor of Ducezio, founder of the city. It was designed by Vincenzo Sinatra in 1746, inspired by some French palaces of the seventeenth century, but was accomplished only in 1830, and the second floor was built in the first half of the twentieth century. The front, convex, is characterized by twenty arches supported by columns with Ionic capitals in the lower section, and thirteen rectangular windows in the upper section. Inside it is worth noting the Hall of Mirrors, ovoid hall furnished with Louis XV-style and large mirrors carved by Sebastiano Dugo. In the vault of the hall stands "Foundation of Neas", Neoclassical fresco by Antonio Mazza depicting the founding of Noto by Sicilian leader Ducezio.
