Ghirlandina tower is the true symbol of Modena. Together with Civic Tower, Duomo and Piazza Grande, it was included in 1997 in the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites. The tip is decorated with two garlands, or two marble railings, hence the name. Inside, Sala della Secchia (with frescoes from the 15th century) houses a copy of the La secchia rapita, testifying to when the tower was home to the coffers and 'trophies' of Modena town hall. Also worthy of note are the carved capitals of Torresani Room, on the fifth floor.
