Torre Faro

Where torre faro, Messina

Located at the end of north-eastern Sicily, stands near Capo Peloro, a hilly promontory where the reliefs abruptly leave to a sandy shore. The name comes from the presence of an important lighthouse, attested as a building already in Roman times and preceded for centuries by lighting points that served to help sailors cross the Strait of Messina. It should be at Torre Faro famous Nicola Pesce, better known as "Colapesce", which tradition wants an expert swimmer and fisherman. Legend has it that during a dive he saw the entrance of a cave that was supported by a column, which contained an immense treasure inside. When he tried to take him to the surface, there was a tremendous earthquake, the column broke and Colapesce replaced the column with it hoping to be saved. The legend still wants to be there today, to support the eastern tip of Sicily.
