Palazzo Mondio

Where Via Marco Polo, 432, Messina

Mondio Palace was built in XVI by Bettoni princes. According to tradition, Emperor Charles V stayed there for a few days in 1535. The present appearance of the building dates back to the eighteenth century: the facade features the family coat of arms; at the north corner the Chapel, used for burials, still houses the white painted wooden altar and the noble palette. There is nothing left of ancient estate, extending in the direction of the village of S.Lucia near Contesse. The palace, now owned by Salonia Foundation, is only partially accessible to small groups.
