Area Archeologica di Palazzo Pignatelli

Where Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, 11, Menfi (Agrigento)

The recent discovery of the necropolis pavement of Pignatelli Palace proves the existence of a settlement in Roman-Byzantine and early Christian period in Menfi. About 700.000 years ago the area was covered by bands of hunters, as evidenced by the discovery of some fragments of quartzite worked as rudimentary weapons used to kill the elephants, of which also were found the tusks. The first residential settlements date back to VII-VI centuries BC.
