Centro Storico
Cetraro Old Town still retains its original Medieval defensive structure, with houses leaning against each latre, often connected, to draw a maze of narrow alleys overlooking the sea. Some buildings still have characteristic chamfering the corners, to allow extension of the passage in more recent times. Corso Roma and Via Regina Elena are the main thoroughfares, converging toward central core founded by monks of Monte Cassino. Palaces, eighteenth and nineteenth century, preserved splendid worked portals and emblems of ancient families. Stone on Giordanelli Palace commemorates the passing of Richard the Lionheart, departing for Crusades.
