Tempio delle Tavole Palatine
Remains of monument are located Archaeological Park of Metaponto, more precisely on the last ripple of Givoni, ancient barrier islands, at the right bank of Bradano river, built on the remains of ancient Neolithic village along the road from Prehistoric Siris-Heraclea, about 3 km from ancient city of Metaponto. Temple, restored in 1961, was initially attributed to the worship of goddess Athena and later to Hera. Until the nineteenth century, Palatine Tables were locally also called "Palatine Shelves" or "Palatine Columns", probably in memory of the struggles against Saracens of Paladins of France. Temple was also called "Pythagorean School", in memory of the great philosopher. The remains of Temple consist of 15 columns with Doric capitals. Nearby were found numerous remains of ancient pottery decoration, statuettes, pottery and other pieces of columns on display at National Archaeological Museum of Metaponto.
