Ponte Romano (o di Pietra)
Where
Via Ponte Romano, Aosta
It was erected at the time of the foundation of Roman city of Augusta Praetoria to allow passage from one side of Buthier river. The work, in a single segmental arch span, rests on solid foundations in puddinga, local conglomerate quarried along the course of Baltea, and measures approximately 17 meters. The vault of the bridge, made up of large stones, wedges, shows a rather flat contour for Roman buildings. The outer covering was built with puddinga and filled in the arc abutment with cement work of high quality.
