Piazza Catuma (o Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II)

Where Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, 9-21, Andria (Barletta-Andria-Trani)

Catuma Square (or Vittorio Emanuele II Square) is one of the oldest and most representative squares of the city. Giuseppe Ceci considers that the place name "Catuma", with which the Square is known to the most people, came from the eponymous esplanade at the bottom of which rose the main church and the feudal castle; Riccardo d'Urso, reports that in the early Middle Ages the Square harbored pagan rites. So, Catuma Square has always been an important center of power and public life: it looked out the Doge's Palace and the Bishop's Palace, here took place markets and cattle fairs. Even today, the Square is the junction between the main streets of the city, home to shows, concerts and is a meeting place for young people.
