Chiesa di San Domenico
The Church of St. Domenico and the adjoining Convent in Gothic style, were built in 1398 by the will of the Swabian Woman Orsini, widow of the Duke of Andria Francis I del Balzo. Dedicated to Our Lady of Humility, the Church was entrusted to the Dominicans. The portal, in Renaissance style, dates back to 1510; the Baroque bell tower, 76 meters high, to 1769. In the nineteenth century, the Convent was intended to prison. The original Gothic church was rebuilt over the centuries. The front, which is accessed by a stone staircase, has a simple statement: the lintel shows a shell with the image of the Virgin and Child, and three frames four heads of seraphim. The pillars entrance are carved with depictions of God watching Adam and Eve. The interior has a single nave, houses five marble altars, and the tomb of Duke Francis II del Balzo.
