The Palace of Nations is located within the Ariana’s Park. The architecture, in Neoclassical style, features a building twice the size of Versailles. The complex was built in 1929 to make way for the League of Nations (the precursor of the ONU institution). Since the war, it homes one of the headquarters of the United Nations. The Palace has an internal garden that offers a stunning view of Geneva Lake and the famous titanium monument dedicated to Russian contributions to the space exploration. The building was left in donation to the city by Gustave de Revilliod de la Rive, in 1890, on condition that it was open to the public and that the peacocks in its park could circulate freely. It can take guided tours of the board rooms and gardens.
