Domus romana Lucca "Casa del Fanciullo Sul Delfino"
The "House of the Child on the Dolphin", domus Romana of the first century BC, was discovered in 2010 during the renovation of the basement of Palazzo Orsucci, in the center of the city. The site, in addition to bringing to light an important page in the history of Lucca Roman era, presents significant architectural remains of the Lombard period, medieval and Renaissance: in one place it can see the evolution of construction techniques from 2000 years. Among the most valuable objects: a bronze fibula of the Augustan age; a sesterzio coined by Emperor Tiberius in 14 AD; a terracotta frieze from which it takes its name domus, depicting two putti riding two dolphins towards the head of a gorgon.
