Established by the will of Maria Luisa of Bourbon, the Botanical Garden has experienced a period of crisis since World War until the 50s, when the City Council has started the recovery and enhancement. Since 1974, the Garden has begun to carry out all its institutional functions. There are preserved several thousand plant species of the Mediterranean. To the Garden is also annexed the Botanical Museum Cesare Bicchi, not currently open to the public since undergoing cataloging, that preserved the historical herbaria (Puccinelli, Bicchi, and others).
